A higher end scan tool that has the ability to read codes from multiple modules should be able to pull the trouble code out, which will indicate which sensor has the issue.

The PDC sound is produced by a small speaker that is connected directly to the PAM (Parking Assistance Module). There are no (configuration) settings that affect the volume. Hi thanks for the reply. I swapped the faulty sensor with each of the 3 nearside ones and always got the same fault (offside) all the nearside worked ok each time. I'm thinking either the module or a break / short in the wiring is the issue. I can get access to a 2001 S500 module if I need it to rule that out firs befor tackling the wiring.
