Hi all, Looking at buying a Mk7 VW Golf (1.4 TSI) or a Civic (2014-2015). Clearly there is a big oil capacity difference between a 1.0L European car and a 5.0L
Two GTI's in the family, 2017 and 2020, the latter using 0w-20. Both use about a quart of oil between changes. I recall changing the 2020 at around 3k and within 2-3k the low oil light came on.
Front diff is part of the gearbox and shares it's oil with that but I 've not seen an official guide on changing the front transmission oil. I've found some information that says a PP GTI with the electronic diff should have a gearbox oil change every 3 years but can't find anything for the R. I bought the Fidelity 7-year warranty with zero deductible for a good price ($1548), so to me it doesn't matter. Even changing all of the fluids myself would cost more than that over a 7-year period, and I would not have the added benefits of coverage on everything else. I have a 2017 GTI. A manual transmission flush with the Genuine VW fluid (75 weight, so I hear) will run about $150 for 3 bottles at ECS Tuning. Yipes! Some people upgrade to the Motul Gear 300 75W-90, but this is my daily driver, so the cold shift issues with that take it out of consideration. I am not tuned, so don't need its extra protection.
